President's Acceptance Speech

When I joined Quota all those years ago I didn’t think in my wildest dreams that I would be speaking in front of the group, let alone being President. The reason I joined Quota was to meet new ladies from the community and to help out when needed. But with the guidance and encouragement from the wonderful members and friends I have meet during my time I am comfortable and proud to be standing in front of you tonight. Plus I know that I can always ask and receive help when I need it. To me that is what Quota is all about. Being a team and supporting each other.

2008 is going to be a busy and exiting year! We are launching a new venture called the Quocka Reading program, which aims to increase literacy levels in our local Primary School children from Grades 2 and 3. With the help of our local police and the support of my fellow Quotarians, I know this will be a great success.

We will also be holding a District conference at Mount Tamborine in 2009. This will require a lot of planning and organisation, so the fun and hard work starts now.

Another exiting thing to happen in May this year is our own Lt Governor Janet Hughes being sworn in as District Governor of the thirtieth district. We are all so proud of Janet’s achievements and dedication to Quota and wish her well for her term. A lot of us will be going to Redcliffe on the night to show our support, and of course to party with her afterwards. Janet will be the second member from our club to be District Gov, Alison Lingard being the first in 1996. What a great club we belong to!

My aspirations for the year ahead is for every member to enjoy the fellowship and friendship of our great Quota Club, and to get out of it what they desire. You may want to work on a committee, or even direct a committee, volunteer on a working bee, or just sells raffle tickets, it’s up to you. Quota doesn’t discriminate. Everyone joins for different reasons, and every reason is a good one. It’s a club that does amazing and special events for our community, with the added bonus of making wonderful friendships along the way.

My motto for the year is that there is no I in Quota.
